Merry Christmas

How many of us have sung the Christmas carol, “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” throughout our lives? Recently, our pastor provided some insight to the meaning behind the song. When the song was originally written the church was stagnant. There was little passion regarding their walk with Christ. The composer of this song was trying to inspire his Christian brothers and sisters to be strong in the Lord regardless of their circumstances.

God rest ye merry gentlemen.
Let nothing you dismay.
Remember Christ our saviour was born on Christmas day.
To save us all from satan’s power when we have gone astray.

The word “Rest” meant “arrest” which means to stir up or get fired up. The word “merry” meant mighty.

So it is with love in our hearts that we encourage you by saying, may God stir up your passion and remember that no matter what you are facing in life, that Christ died on the cross for you.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. ~John 3:16
